Bolivar History

Our hometown of Bolivar, Missouri is a city of over 10,000 people located on Highway 13 between Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri. It is surrounded by recreational areas that furnish great fishing and all types of wild game; the closest being Stockton Lake. Bolivar also has an excellent and plentiful work force with the type of people that it takes to make manufacturing and business successful. Bolivar area residents are proud of our good schools, churches, health care facilities, University, and our strong business and farming community. Bolivar is a community with small town flavor and progressive ideas.
In 1995, Bolivar was selected as the safest small town in America. In 1997, Bolivar was selected in the top 100 small towns overall in the United States. When you walk down our streets, you are still greeted with a smile and most generally, a friendly word of encouragement. Bolivar has a lot to be proud of: our 74 bed hospital with full services, Southwest Baptist University and its many cultural activities, our school system, various recreational activities for the entire family, an active historical society, the Dunnegan Art Gallery, a Community Concert Association, movie theaters and much more.
